Description:
The City Lights Parade & Festival has been captivating event goers for 15 years! More than 14,000 people enjoyed last year’s event and over 100 entrants joined in the parade! Families were amazed at the colorful lighted floats and cars. Children and parents took pleasure riding in a covered wagon drawn by horses; sightseeing in miniature trains around downtown; riding atop a live pony merry-go-round and jumping in the bounce houses. The new and improved “Santa Land” in Park Central was a hit as well. Families were able to drink some hot cocoa, enjoy the light displays and get their pictures taken with Santa- all for FREE! This annual kick-off for the holiday season takes place, Saturday, November 17th from 4pm-8pm (Parade starts at 7pm) downtown around the Farmer’s Market (8th & Ohio) and Park Central (8th & Scott). The actual parade route spans over 14 blocks up and down 8th & 9th streets. Last year as the first float was coming back to the starting point the last ones were just leaving! City Lights is Downtown Wichita Falls Development’s gift to the city; a thank you for all the support throughout the year and a reminder of the wonderful downtown we have. Participating merchants will be open until 8pm for your shopping pleasure. Be sure to enter the City Lights 5K Run/Walk! (November 17th 4pm) that starts at the Hotter N’ Hell Clubhouse and get to see some downtown sights and run the parade route! (For more info please email: info@weechita.org ) This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever; including a new and improved amusement area with low cost rides (on Indiana between 7th & 9th); as well as the “Free Fun Zone” (Ohio near Farmers Market) with free activities and rides for families. Two stages will feature various entertainment from choirs, dancers, musicians and more! Santa Land (8th & Scott) will feature some new lighted displays and bring your camera for free pictures with Santa! We are expecting even more spectacular floats and lighted entries in the parade as well! Come join us and wear your most festive holiday attire (Christmas sweaters welcome too!) It’s time to get in to the holiday spirit…Downtown!! Call DWFD 940-322-4525 to get more info.
