[7:00pm] Southwest Oklahoma Lupus Support Group Meeting
- Description:
- The Lupus Foundation of Oklahoma, Southwest Oklahoma Lupus Support Group will meet on Monday, March 8th, 2010 at 7pm in Marlow. Please join us at the Bancfirst building at 128 West Main St.
We are a community of patients, family members and friends dedicated to dealing with lupus, together. By joining our group, individuals and families affected by the disease will gain support, while increasing awareness of lupus among health professionals and the public, and educating the patients themselves.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease which can be destructive to any major organ or tissue in the body. The disease can be very unpredictable and is potentially fatal, yet no satisfactory treatment or a cure exists. Approximately 1.5 million Americans and at least five million people worldwide have a form of lupus. Lupus strikes mostly females ages 15-44, although anyone can develop the disease.
There hasn’t been a new drug approved for lupus in over 50 years, and the current options are often as toxic and damaging as the disease itself. However, there is now real hope for lupus patients that a safe and effective drug will soon be available. A few new lupus drugs are showing positive results in clinical trials.
